Tag Archive: Halo: Reach

According to Geoff Keighley’s tweet, the biggest and most surprising premiere in the VGA’s history shall occur during the first 5 minutes of the show. And going back a couple tweets, Geoff Keighley says that it’s not Halo Reach.

What could it be? I’m not sure, there’s only been a couple of sequel announcements I’ve been waiting for. One was Dead Space 2 (Which was announced), and the other two are Too Human 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3.

Is there anything you guys are looking out for that you want to be announced that I’m forgetting?

VGA’s Exclusive Premieres Roundup

The VGA’s are nearly upon us, and have a great deal of world exclusives to deal out to us. I collected all of them that I could find, and now present them. Take note, these are not all of them and the VGA’ s still have a bunch of secret stuff to show off. Tune in tomorrow at 8:00 on Spike to get your mind blown with all of the world premieres.

The Titans of the Industry

(Those giant franchises that’ll knock down mountains)

Why Should I Care?: It’s a new Halo game, need I say more? The supposedly last Bungie developed Halo game, being developed with a completely different engine and telling one of the darkest stories in the Halo universe, the Fall of Reach.

What Do We Know?: Some supposedly leaked screenshots have come out showing us a more squad central Halo multiplayer, with some new Covenant weapons and some objects that look a lot like perks. Also the return of both the Health system in multiplayer and Elites as enemies.

What’s the Hype?: Geoff Keighley (Also known as ‘Lord EXCLUSIVE!’) claims that:

I think it’s going to be the biggest game of next year by far. Folks loved ODST and thought it was great, but when people see the huge leap forward Bungie is taking with Reach… Everyone that I’ve talked to that’s been on the team and seen it is incredibly excited about that game.

Also Microsoft’s Aaron Greenburg said that:

I feel confident that there’s nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.

Why Should I Care?: Medal of Honor used to be one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, but crappy game after crappy game later the series has fallen. But with the reboot of the franchise in the hands of DICE and EA LA and a new serious gritty look on modern warfare, this new Medal of Honor has set its sights on dominating the modern warfare FPS genre.

What Do We Know?: Not much really, EA claims that the game will be the “The Most Authentic Modern War Experience” with Battlefield developers DICE  taking over development of the multiplayer, while EA LA takes over the single-player.

What’s the Hype?: EA CEO John Riccitiello has stepped up and issued a challenge to the juggernaut known as Modern Warfare 2:

I’m not saying it’s going to happen tomorrow, but in the way that Activision sort of alternates sequels of Modern Warfare and Call of Duty and owns the leadership position in FPS [first-person-shooter], between Medal of Honor and Battlefield, I want it back. And we’re going to get there with innovation and quality.

The Super-Secret-Squirrel Stuff

(Those secret games which will be revealed)

What Could it Be?: The official word is that it’s a new shooter from 2K Games. The underground digging has unearthed a great deal about this mysterious game, claiming it to be a reboot of the Spec Ops franchise and discovering the supposed full trailer of the game that contains a little of the teaser trailer.

Why Should I Care?: Spec Ops games are TERRIBLE, all of them. So this game must be something special for the VGA’s to premiere it, and to have 2K bring it back to life.

What Could it Be?: Its been rumored that it’s the United Front Games “action-based game set in Hong Kong” called Black Lotus to be published by Activision, but not really sure on this one.

Why Should I Care?: The trailer reveals some interesting plot points, a under-cover cop going real deep. And gameplay will be shown.

What Could it Be?: According to the Australian Classification Board this could be a new series called Star Wars: Legends, whatever that is. There’s also a good chance it’s the supposedly dead Star Wars: Battlefront III that was being developed by Free Radical Design until they bit the dust.  And if we can include dreams here, I REALLY hope it’s Republic Commando 2.

Why Should I Care?: Its Star Wars, you probably already care a lot. If not then I don’t really know if I can convince you too care. Oh I know, it could be Republic Commando 2!

What Could it Be?: No idea folks. If I would take a wild guess, it would be that it’s the Jason Bourne game being developed by Starbreeze and being published by EA. But I can only hope. Also it seemed very similar to the other game totally set in Hong Kong, so I could also say that its just a second trailer for that game.

Why Should I Care?: It seems like the guy in the trailer looks like an acrobatic kind of dude. That could be neat I guess.

The Known Factors

(Those games that we know which are showing much more)

Why Should I Care?: The first Crackdown was a cult classic, and after a great deal of dreaming 360 fans wishes came true. Crackdown 2 was announced and will be premiering “official” gameplay at the VGA’s, even though you can find some TGS gameplay footage. Be prepared to experience tons of sandbox crazy in the sequel.

Why Should I Care?: The small bit of gameplay in the trailer was interesting, and the trailer for the movie looks good. A lot of folks love Tron, and hopefully this game can rise above the movie license video game curse.

Why Should I Care?: UFC 2009 received great reviews, and a lot of people really enjoyed the first game. With a deep fighting system, and engaging gameplay the first game succeeded in many aspects and sold very well. This leaves a lot of room for the sequel to improve further.

Why Should I Care?: The series is returning to the Sands of Time timeline, which I still consider better overall than the recent reboot of Prince of Persia. I’m interested in seeing if this is just a game to follow the movie, or a completely new game. We shall see.

Halo Reach premieres at VGA’s Dec. 12

And it looks like they’ve just won quite a victory. According to their website, the first footage of Halo Reach will be premiering at the VGA’s on December 12.
